| Everything I Never Told You, a novel written by Celeste Ng, is a tragedy of a marriage between a Chinese-American and a native American. It mainly tells the traumas in this cross-race family and the experiences of self-salvation. It shows the racial traumas coming from James Lee, a male of Chinese descent, the gender of Marilyn, a white female, and the generation gap of their mixed-race daughter Lydia. It guides readers to understand the processes of being hurt unspeakably in their hearts and the healing journey through constant fights for the family members. The exploration of the traumas and self-salvation of the main characters in Everything I Never Told can not only draw the attention of society to the struggles of the members in the cross-race families, but also encourage people to re-examine and reconsider the social issues in the era of globalization, such as generation gap, race, gender, etc. So it can help to build up a community with a shared future for mankind. |
