The Black Cat is one of Edgar Allan Poe′s important novels. It focuses on the self-report of a prisoner facing the death penalty. He thought he was innocent, but under the influence of alcoholism and the external environment, he inadvertently killed animals and his wife. Self-narratives are mixed with complex emotions such as fear, anger, remorse, and even pity. The work closely revolves around the psychological process of the characters, showing the development and flow of the internal consciousness of the characters and the elements of the external environment, as well as the madness and collapse under the influence of extreme anthropocentrism, reflecting the complexity of their bioethical consciousness, which make it possible to interpret the work from the perspective of ecocriticism. |
