| The novel Flesh And Spirit was one of Zhang Xianliang′s early works, and it caused a sensation as soon as it was published. Torn between identity anxiety and spiritual loneliness, Xu Lingjun, the hero in the novel, attempted to break through mental plight by means of soul redemption, and finally accomplished self-reshape of the intellectuals. The intellectual image of Xu Lingjun demonstrates the value of contemporary literary history in the aspects of the complexity and diversity of human nature, the grimness and thinking of historical intervention, and the prominence and sublimation of patriotic complex. |
