| Naming is the core issue in the research on philosophy of language. There exist different naming theories in western philosophy of language. After making an analysis and evaluation of descriptive theory, historical causal naming theory and contextual theory, the paper focuses on the development and defect of these three theories. The philosophical thoughts that each of them has its own advantages and difficulties it could not overcome have been proposed. |
