| Yvonne Vera is one of the most cosmopolitan and gifted writers in Africa. Her novels are devoted to writing the fate of Zimbabwe in the war-torn era and the living conditions of women at the bottom in the extreme violent events. In her typical works, such as Without a Name, Under the Tongue, Butterfly Burning, the heroine falls into the dilemma of identity, emotion and self realization. This reflects the colonial plunder, the harm of anti colonial war to women and the difficulty of women's survival under patriarchy. At the same time, Vera boldly uses poetic writing style, which has a strong visual contrast with the violence in the novel, and the tragic effect is more intense. |
