During the Anti-Japanese War, Li Dongfang, who was the standing member and secretary of the University Book Committee, was known as "the first person to sell tickets to tell history" because of his poor living and made a public speech on historical stories. In the 1960s, Li Dongfang combined with his experience and style of lecturing history in Chongqing, created a series of works, such as Xi Shuo Qing Dynasty, Xi Shuo the Three Kingdoms and Xi Shuo Ming Dynasty. Li Dongfang called them "Xi Shuo Ti". In essence, "Xi Shuo Ti" is not a new historical genre, but a popular way of writing dynastic history. With its detailed contents and simple expressions, the series of "Xi Shuo" provide reference for the writing of popular historical books in later generations and promote the development of popularization of history. |
