| Due to the fear or unwillingness, people avoided directly talking about death, and adopted indirect ways if have to, leading to large quantities of euphemisms concerning death in previous studies. Based on American English, this article investigated the direct expressions of death, and it found: most of the direct expressions about death go up as time elapses, and this paper explained this trend from the degree of modern civilization, deepening of people cognition, and the requirement from modern social lives. |
