| This paper is going to analyze the existence and significance of death theme in Bret Harte's short stories, disclosing the historical changes of value in the American West during the period of “the Western Movement”and “the Gold Rush”, which discusses its influence on the social system and behavior, to point out that death theme is the product of both ideology and writer's intention. Understanding of death correctly benefits the construction of the relationship between human beings and nature. |
