何承天出身士族次门，父系一族以武功起家，这为何承天形成了出仕为官的政治理想以及光耀门楣的个人抱负；母系一族，世代博学，这为何承天汲取知识、广览数术提供了源泉。经考证，其应赵惔之辟任宁蛮校尉司马应是在义熙四年(408)，辞却此职是其明哲保身、审时度势的仕宦态度的具体体现。其贬任衡阳内史应是在元嘉十一年(434)，任上参与了著名的“白黑论”之争，后被收系狱，又值赦免。

英文摘要:

He Chengtian comes from a rural family. The Hes build up a family by military accomplishments and The Xus build up a family Clan culture. I find that He Chengtian became the aide-de-camp of the military governor of NingMan ZhaoDan in the forth year of Yi Xi, and was appointed to comptroller of HengYang in the eleventh year of Yuan Jia.
