Salt industry in Yangzhou started in the West Han Dynasty, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasty, which is the time Nanhexia and Yangzhou establishing relationship. In the middle of Ming Dynasty, Yangzhou constructed new city, Nanhexia was a part of the new city where salt traders inhabited together. Many remains and legends about salt traders and salt industry preserved in Nanhexia. Yangzhou was an important part of "Hai Salt" producing and trading chain. It can be explained by the street name of "Yinshi Street". The specific economic geography of Yangzhou in Chinese salt industry can also be illustrated by "four shores public office" and its "shores". Recently, Nanhexia is an important tourist area of salt culture in Yangzhou. Nanhexia improved half part of salt history in Yangzhou. |
