| This article discusses the tragic destiny of the Swede,hero of Phillip Roth’s American Pastoral from three aspects: individual,family and society.His tragedy is not only considered a tragedy of himself,but also one of the family and even of the whole American society.Through the analysis of the hero’s tragedy,one will find it easy to sense the thorough revelation of the hegemony of American dominant culture and great sympathy on the trapped Jewish immigrants. |
