| The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner is a modern novel full of symbolic images and symbolic significance, in which new creative techniques such as broken-up time order, multi-narrative, juxtaposition, stream of consciousness, myth prototype and symbolic metaphor are adopted to unify content and form, and reveal the theme of death and infidelity. This thesis analyses the symbolic images and their symbolic significance, brings to light the central theme of death —— the death of the Compson family and the old traditions and constitutions and system in old South America. |
