| The article verifies the fact that the ancient Chinese characters were mainly created by women in the time of matriarchy. The following points support this thesis: the historical conditions of characters’ coming into being; the great disparities of characters between those with radicals as women and those as man in their numbers, meanings, use and also the depth of their involvement into social life; The characters referring to common social members and the merriage relation often use the radicals as woman but not man; characters describing the activities of sacrifices to gods and ancestors. |
